Back in March, we announced our intention to try to find someone to take over the Rooted Spoon by the end of 2021, so that I can start a new job next year. We’ve been getting lots of questions lately if that’s still the case & about what’s next?

My lease on the Rooted Spoon space at 219 Main Street is up at the end of this year and we will be closing the Spoon at the end of December regardless if someone new comes forward to take over or not (we know – it is sad!!!). If anyone knows anyone who might be interested in taking over the Spoon please have them contact our business brokers ASAP: (…/219…/pid_40411711/), as the end of the year is nigh! In the meantime, expect our regular Friday Night Tacos/Drinkery and 1st Thursday Dinners (including this week’s Czech dinner!) through mid-December, plus a few surprise events. What’s next for me? After 12 years of building and running this business, I’m ready for a wee break over the winter. Then, starting next summer, I am super excited to join a good friend to start a new event space near my farm in rural Soldiers Grove, where I will be able to focus more of my time and energy into cooking and educating, with the same commitment to quality local ingredients that we’ve always had with the Rooted Spoon. More information about this will be coming out later this winter!

I am so grateful to have been supported throughout this journey by a crew who loves real food as much as I do, and without their talent and hard work none of this would’ve been possible. All of my amazing co-workers have always had a lot of other things going on, but have chosen to devote a day or few a week to come bust some serious ass together as a team to make and serve good food to our community, and really try to have fun while doing it.

Over the last 10 years here at the Rooted Spoon Kitchen Table, we have been proud to provide an inclusive gathering space on Main Street and to be ambassadors of Driftless food and farming goodness to regular customers and visitors alike via our open-to-the public service (over 300 Drinkery/Taco Fridays, 170 Sunday Brunches, 105 monthly 1st Thursday Dinners, and 53 every-Thursday takeout dinners during Covid) and catering, both in-house and off-site (over 140 weddings, 300 private/corporate parties, and 200 fundraisers/retreats/workshops)! We can’t thank the community here in Viroqua enough for all of their support over the years to help make this happen!
